Family Therapy & Parent Therapy

Issues addressed in family therapy/parent therapy

Parental or family therapy can stand on its own or run alongside a child’s or adolescent’s individual therapy. It provides support when families are navigating:

  • A child’s emotional, relational, social, physiological, behavioral, or academic difficulties.

  • Parenting challenges: differing approaches, questions of authority, or the realities of single-parent households.

  • Internal family events: conflict, separation, divorce, family secrets, grief, mental illness, adoption, blended families, sibling jealousy, disability, major transitions.

  • External events affecting the family: accidents, assault, expatriation, and more.

You are not born a parent—you become one

Parents often say, “There’s no manual for raising a child.” And they’re right—parenting is not learned from a book. It develops through experience and through the evolving relationship with one’s child.

Being a parent is not always simple. Every parent encounters moments of uncertainty. How do we support a child’s growth? How do we set boundaries that are both consistent and meaningful? How do we manage a child’s emotions—and our own? How do we balance the needs of the entire family?

These questions are universal, and their answers are rarely straightforward.
